Author Shawn Elliot Russell Surprises student!

Mrs. Rios. Midkiff Librarian read the book, "Be Still Little Tree, Be Still" written by Shawn Elliot Russell, to motivate 3rd-5th grade students before their STAAR test in early April. Fifth grader Tessa Olvera was so inspired by the story, that she wrote a letter to Mr. Russell to thank him for writing this book. Tessa writes, "It was meant to encourage us to be Brave, and made me feel even better than I felt about the test and made me feel even more smarter." At the end of her letter, Tessa personally invited him to our campus to tell him to "give a speech to all of the students so that they could meet you." The author contacted Mrs.Rios and Tessa's parents, Dominic and Aaron Olvera, where they planned the surprise visit.
Mr. Russell did an AMAZING job in motivating and engaging our students and even took the time to visit some of the classrooms and personally speak to students! He left a lasting impression on our students!
On behalf of Midkiff Elementary, thank you Mr. Russell!!!
