The MCISD Bilingual Department has informed us that Dr. Luis Bocanegra from Summit K12 and representatives from the Bilingual Department will be visiting our campus next Tuesday, October 27 (schedule TBD by CO), for classroom Learning Walks. The primary goal of these visits is to observe Summit K12 in action and identify ways to support and build teacher confidence.

To ensure our students and classrooms are well-prepared, we will conduct a Mock Visit this coming Friday, October 23. During this time, all Dual Language and ESL students should be actively engaged in Summit K12 instruction during their assigned time blocks.
Mock Visit Schedule (Friday):

  • Ivette Arevalo | Grade 5 | Room 205 | 8:00 AM – 8:30 AM

  • Rosalva Fajardo | Grade 3 | Room 304 | 9:05 AM – 9:35 AM

  2. Component 2: Teacher Actions & Student Engagement

    • Teacher Actions: Actively moving around the room, monitoring progress in real time, conferring with students individually or in small groups, and providing immediate feedback.

    • Student Engagement: Students remain actively engaged in speaking, listening, reading, or writing, and can articulate what they are learning and why.

  3. Component 3: Classroom Environment & Student Ownership

    • Environment: A positive culture where growth/effort are recognized and mistakes are treated as learning opportunities.

    • Ownership: Students monitor/reflect on their own PLP progress, understand the purpose of language practice, and take pride in their accomplishments.
